ok, This one made me weepy. I am so glad that Elias has started to reach for the body and bread.

Fr Bert Allen (who would probably be 100 if he were still alive- he served as both an assistant and a priest in residence at St. Barts) used to say that we don't wait for kids to be able to explain nutrition before we feed them and so we should not make them wait for Eucharist until they can explain "Real Presence."

It is so sad when parents don't let their baptized children participate when they start to reach for the bread. You two have exercised great wisdom ---- once again!

I'm so glad he's feeling better! It's so hard as a mom to see your child suffering. I hope that things get back to normal soon and Elias feels lots better!

O Kim all my old remembered early mommy memories and reflexes ache for you (and for Elias)---- we never lose the echoes of nights and days of worry and light sleeping. Praying those sort of breath prayers like the Jesus Prayers or the Trisagion or Hail Marys all help. And remembering that all the "mommy saints" in particular are keeping vigil with you.
My small prayers for the three of you, too.

When I was a little girl, there was a radio show my parents listened to every morning at breakfast time, and there was a five or ten minute segment of music towards the end called "March Around the Breakfast Table" that my sister and I both loved. Actually, I never outgrew listening to music at breakfast.

And now I want that Bible song cd!!!

These photos remind me of the night Nathan was at Grandma and Grandpa Smith's house in Lincoln City. He fell asleep at the dinner table and did a face plant into a plate of spaghetti. I thought Grandma was going to die laughing! The fruit never fall far from the tree.

Elias comes by his fascination with bodily functions naturally because of his Germanic heritage--he is 1/8 Swiss. His Great Grandma Smith is Swiss and the family spoke German when she was growing up (Her oldest sister, who was in the 2nd generation born in the U.S., entered school in 1918 and did not speak English!). Great Grandma Smith claims that all anyone needs to speak German is to be able to clear their throat and spit! I digress--wait until Elias discovers the toilet . . .
