Nathan has been working at OHSU for almost three years now. He’s been in his new position for about a month…but total, he’ll have been at OHSU three years in mid October. A few weeks after he started working there, Nathan mentioned to me that there is a “Golden Rose” award for employees. The Golden Rose is an award that recognizes service excellence at OHSU. It was one of Nathan’s goals to win one from the very beginning.
The Golden Rose is awarded to three or four people each month. Employees have to be nominated. Someone has to write the story to nominate you and submit it to the committee. Then the winners are chosen.
I say all this because Nathan was nominated by his former supervisor, and was chosen as a Golden Rose winner for the month of September 2012. I was very proud of Nathan because he had a goal, and did everything he could to reach it…then was recognized for it not only by his former boss, but the whole committee!
Elias and I went last week for a reception when Nathan got his award. It was fun for me to meet Nathan’s former boss and a few of his former coworkers. Elias enjoyed seeing his Daddy at work.
Eventually I think you’ll be able to read his story online, but as of now, they are only posted through June. Basically, Nathan worked with TVFR to surprise a patient who was stuck in the hospital to see her daughter’s high school graduation live on a screen in her hospital room. He had to volunteer his time on a Saturday to do it, too!
