Progress

We are making slow, but steady progress in many areas in our household. We are starting to find a rhythm and routine. Things are starting to feel more under control. (Nathan claims that the state of the kitchen has no effect on his mental state…but for me…bare counters and clean floors provide a bit more sanity than piles of dirty dishes everywhere!) We’ll probably feel great just in time for Nathan to go back to work and everything to be thrown out of whack again. But it is nice to feel human again….to not feel so desperately lost. Nathan and I make a good team, and we’ve had lots of help (especially with meals).

Elias seems to be doing better as well. He now very occasionally cries due to Simon’s crying, but has developed a different habit for most of the cries….Elias whispers. When he hears Simon make any sort of noise…except for his nursing noise which Elias has dubbed “the laughing monkey”….Elias just starts whispering. It’s a coping mechanism, I guess, but I like it more than the crying. Having two crying at once was difficult.

Elias is becoming more and more interested in Simon and what he is doing. He is able to play sometimes now with Simon in the room. He is doing better at meal times when Simon is at the table. He has wanted to watch a few diaper changes. He asked me to read him a story when I was holding Simon. We are seeing progress which makes me happy.

Tomorrow we rejoin society by going to church. We are excited, but it will be difficult to get out the door in time…let alone learning how to manage two children out in public!
