We had a bit of cabin fever this morning. Things were actually going very well on the home front. Elias showed more interest in Simon, and did not cry when I had to change Simon’s first diaper blowout (which involved some wailing on Simon’s part). But we still wanted to get out and do something fun. We decided to drive to the park for some bat and ball.
Unfortunately, our timing stunk. It didn’t rain all morning…until the moment we walked outside. It was sprinkling when we left the stairwell so we decided to just go for it anyway. We might not win parents of the year award for that decision. By the time we got to the park it was raining pretty hard. I offered to stay in the car with Simon, but we decided…no….we were going to have some family fun. It is Oregon after all, right?
Elias had some fun hitting the ball off of the tee. Then he decided he wanted to go check out the play ground. Unfortunately, we didn’t really want to let him slide and he couldn’t really understand why we were at the park without going on the slide. After about 15 minutes, Simon hadn’t had a rain drop touch him yet, but the other three of us were soaked! I was freezing so I know Elias probably was too…but he didn’t want to leave. He was having the time of his life.
After quite a temper tantrum, we finally got everyone back into the car. As we pulled into the parking lot of our place, we discovered it had stopped raining. What timing!
Let’s just call it bad luck. Or lack of sleep. Or maybe just some good ‘ol Oregonian fun.
Rain or not, I’m just glad you got to go outside and it sounds like Elias loved it! I don’t think you are bad parents at all!
No way are the two of you “bad parents” — rather you are thoughtful and quite exceptional ones! All NW Oregon children need to learn not to fear a little rain — and I’m sure you let Elias splash in puddles (with his rubber boots on) etc.
By the way I really loved the picture the other day of N. bathing S. !
