It’s time for the Smith Family Spring 2013 Bucket List!
I have to admit, we didn’t get very far on our Winter bucket list. But that is not completely our fault. Many of our activities centered on snow…and it never really snowed. (And we never drove up to the mountain). We completed six fun activities on our winter bucket list, and had lots of other family fun. Besides that we had a baby…so all in all our winter was pretty good!
Now for our Spring 2013 bucket list:
– Take a ride on the Mount Hood Railroad
– Visit the Tulip Festival
-Dye Easter Eggs
-Read the Easter story together as a family
-Visit the World Forestry Center
-Make and Decorate Spring Cookies
-Visit Powell’s City of Books in Portland or Finnegan’s Toys or both
-Visit the Central Library in Portland
-Learn about hummingbirds and put out something for them on our balcony
-Have a picnic in the park
-Visit the Japanese Gardens
-Do a spring art project
-Host a brunch
-Spring clean the kitchen
-Go to the farmers market and buy flowers for someone special
-Build a leprechaun trap
Now for my favorite part…displaying the bucket list! I always want to include Elias in making the bucket list, but since he is just two years old, I can’t do anything too elaborate. This time I got my idea for spring flowers here. I liked the flowers, and Elias has loved dot markers every time he has used them at art class. I started with this idea, and changed it for my own use.
Here is what I did:
1. I got some small paper plates out of the cupboard that were leftover from a baby shower, and turned them over to the back side. Then, I gave them to my son with a set of dot markers and said, “have fun!” (Well…it was a bit more involved than that…but you get the idea!)
2. We drew a tulip template that would fit inside the plate. Then, while I was cutting out the flowers from my son’s art, I gave him some paper and markers to draw a picture for the stems of the flowers. After he finished, I cut the stems from the picture he drew.
3. Because I wanted to display the flowers in the window, I wanted them to be double sided. That way they can be enjoyed from the outside or inside! Elias glued to flowers together with a stem in the middle.
4. After the glue dried, I made a leaf template, cut out sixteen leaves for our sixteen bucket list items, and wrote one on each leaf.
5. We attached the leaves to our flowers, and displayed them all proudly in the window!
