I guess I’ve got a lot to learn about being a Mom of two in the store. We had a mini adventure inside our local Target store this morning.
First of all, I just have to say that I had both boys ready and out the door before 9:00…yes…a.m. This does not seem to be an early time…but it is very difficult to get us all out the door on my own. As we entered Target, my eyes kept darting back and forth. I fully expected someone to come up and say “Excuse me…you aren’t wearing pants.” or “You still have shampoo in your hair” or I’d discover one of the boys had no diaper or hadn’t eaten breakfast or something.
But no…I really got us all ready that early. It’s a good sign for my desire to start running. It means I can go exercise and still go to play dates and such things at a reasonable time.
Anyway, I digress. We walked into Target, and I asked Elias if he would like to ride in the basket with Simon in the bjorn, or if he would like to walk with Simon in the basket. He chose to walk. It makes things tougher on me if he walks, but a boy’s got to learn at some point, right?
We went shopping, and got our peanut butter and contact paper and bananas and other things on our list. I only had to give Elias one warning to stay close or be confined to the basket. There was one item I could not find, however. I wanted clothes pins. As I looked up and down the aisles, I spoke aloud to myself and Elias: “Mommy is going to have to ask someone. I just don’t know where the clothes pins are.”
To my surprise, Elias ran over to a man (we had never seen him before) and says, “Uhhhhh….Mommy doesn’t know where clothes mans are.”
The guy gave a little smirk and went on his way. I about died laughing inside…but then thanked Elias for trying to help. We finished our shopping and went up to the check out register.
As I unloaded the cart, I found three things that had mysteriously appeared….I don’t know when….A cheeseburger piggy bank, a weird rubber dragon toy, and a bottle of Resolve carpet cleaner…..Oh my….how did he get those in there?
Elias…in his chatty mood…decided to start a conversation with the checker.
“Ummm….are you cleaning up?”
I tried to explain to Elias that she was helping us check out so we could pay and go home. But he was not satisfied. He turned back to the lady and said, “You’re putting that stuff away.” (She was bagging it)
Then he went on to point out that we were buying peanut butter and how it is his favorite and he wants to eat some when we get home. The checker was amused.
Finally, Elias pointed to the Mickey mouse toddler bed sheets still on the conveyor and said, “Don’t forget those!”
Well…all three of us made it home. We got everything on our list (and nothing extra). But I still think I’ve got a lot to learn about being a Mom of two in Target!
