Simon was born 8 weeks ago. That also means that I had surgery 8 weeks ago. I’ve decided it’s time to start helping my body be healthy and return to pre-pregnancy state. So today, I started Weight Watchers again, and I started running.
Now running is not my forte. I prefer swimming for exercise, but with two kids, it just isn’t very doable. So I got myself some good running shoes, and today was the day.
After Simon woke up from his afternoon nap, the sun was out, the sky was blue, and the thermometer said 65 degrees. Perfect conditions for my first run! Of course, it took me about 30 minutes to actually get going including all the diaper changes, blanket and pacifier packing, and actually getting the boys into the stroller!
I was out for a little over an hour total. Probably only about 10 minutes of it was actual running. The rest was just walking…but you have to start somewhere, right? Actually…I don’t know if you could call what I did actual running. It was more like hanging on to the stroller for dear life while I shuffled along as fast as I could, tongue hanging out, breathing hard….at least it felt that way.
I made it back to the car to disassemble the stroller, and found that both boys were asleep! It’s rare that they are asleep at the same time so I decided not to waste the “me time.” I turned the stroller right around and went back out into the neighborhood. This time I just took a leisurely stroll and enjoyed the sky, the blossoms, the warmth of the sun on my back, and the sweet smell of spring. After awhile, though, I was starving so I went home to make dinner for a slightly grumpy toddler and myself.
During dinner, I asked Elias what he thought of the run. He said, “We went fast.” So I asked him, “Was it fun to go fast?” His response? “No, it was crazy!”
Well, I think it was a pretty successful first run. It can only get better from here, right?
