Big Eyes, Strong Muscles

P1110243Up until about a week ago, I hadn’t done much tummy time with Simon. It was just one of those things that isn’t very fun to do, gets forgotten easily, and as a result, didn’t happen much. While I was researching some ideas for Elias for a different project, I came across an article about tummy time and development of babies. I read it through and…whammo! Bring on the guilt. I was letting life get in the way of something so easy to do, but has huge benefits.

So we’ve been working on tummy time a few times a day for a few minutes each time. Simon actually seems to be doing pretty well with it now. I vary the surfaces he lays on so he experiences different textures and different inclines. I place different objects in front of him to look at. I get right down there with him a lot of the time. (This morning he had a tummy time session with two of his other baby playmates and he enjoyed staring at them quite a bit). Elias also got right down on the floor with Simon in the evening and said, “I’m doing tummy time!”

Simon’s neck muscles are getting quite strong. This evening during tummy time, he was able to hold his head up almost the entire time, and resorted to laying his head on the pillow only at the very end. I love this boy!
