One of Nathan’s friends had his first son a few months before Elias was born. He had one of the absolute best ideas I’ve ever come across, and I’m going to try to do it myself here.
This will be a list of Simon’s observed spoken words. He is beginning to pick up language so fast now, and this was one of the most magical and fun times when I went through it with Elias. I think it will be fun to watch this list get longer and longer.
A couple notes:
1. I will be the one observing. He may say a word that is not on the list, but if I don’t hear it, it won’t be written on this list.
2. This is not a list of words he understands. For example, right now Simon understands the word “shoes.” Every time I say shoes he points to his feet or goes and brings his shoes to me. But he has never said “shoes” so it won’t be on the list yet.
3. Approximations are ok. If Simon says a word close enough that I can tell what he is saying, and it makes sense in the context, it counts. If he says a word, but it is not applied to the correct meaning, it will not be written down. For example, he can say “star” very clearly, but not yet when he actually sees the shape.
4. I will write the date I first observed the word next to it, and how it sounds coming out of his mouth. The first few will all have today’s date even though he has been saying some of them for awhile now.
