Today was Elias’ first day of Sunday School! He has participated in the church Christmas pageant, and a few inter-generational activities with the church school in the last year or so, but today he actually got to go to his first Godly Play class.
As soon as we got there, he got to put on his name tag. He was super excited because it came on a lanyard. Both Nathan and I have badges at home from work, and Elias has wanted a badge of his own for awhile now. His name tag looked just like a badge! Elias also loves stickers so he was happy to put a sticker on the attendance chart. They got him off to a good start!
When it was time to actually go into the classroom,
he did just fine in the hands of Tony, Alison, and Nick, his teachers. He looked a tiny bit nervous, but he didn’t really need me at all.
When I went to pick him, up, I asked Elias what he did at Sunday School. He said, “We ate crackers!”
I couldn’t really pry anything else out of him while we were at church so I was a bit disappointed. But later when I asked him about his favorite part, he said “my favorite was the blue king. There was three kings. A red, a yellow, and blue. And baby Jesus and Joseph and Mary.” I am assuming these were props during the story telling portion of the class. His teacher also told us that he played with play-doh.
So all in all it was a success! Here’s to many more happy Sunday mornings!
