It all started because I wanted to teach Elias how to read a map. I’ve been looking into toddler/preschooler geography lessons because I know from experience as a teacher that it is hard to fit that kind of thing into the school day. I want my boys to have a broad world view, and one of the ways to start is to teach them about maps.
As I looked up fun ideas, I kept coming back to treasure maps, and thus the idea for a pirate party was born. Yesterday was International Talk Like A Pirate Day so that date was set. And what’s more fun than inviting a bunch of friends over? We actually invited our entire MOMS club, and had quite a good turn out.
The kids got to make pirate hats, pirate swords, read pirate books, wear an eye patch, and most importantly, dig up buried treasure in the backyard. My boys both had a great time, and had a lot of fun with friends! Here they are showing off their hats and eye patches:
I decorated our house a bit for the party. This one sign was especially fun for the adults who could get the humor. I hung it on the bathroom door.
Thanks to everyone who came and made our pirate party a success!
