Hagg Lake Tubing

We went out for a fun day on Hagg Lake to beat the heat. It was our unborn child’s first ever lake swim. And I went tubing:

Welcome to the Family

We have a new niece! She was finally born yesterday, a week after her due date. We are so excited to meet her this Christmas when they all come to visit. Here are the details:

Sonya Alice, 8 pounds 1 ounce, 21 inches, July 19th 4:58 a.m.

I think the picture of both girls is so adorable! Their noses are so similar.

Mount St. Helens

With a rare free weekend in front of us, Nate and I decided to take a day trip on Sunday. We went to the early church service instead of our regular one, then headed off to Mount St. Helens. Although it looked early on like we wouldn’t be able to see anything because of the clouds, our faith in the sun paid off. It was beautiful up there!

We looked at this view through a telescope and saw some steam coming out of a vent.

Me and the baby.

Nathan learning from one of the many signs on the trail.

Here we are together.

Family (almost) one person bigger

My sister is now past due with her second child. I can tell the kid will be plucky, because she has successfully evaded her due date, her parents’ wedding anniversary, and my birthday. She shall have her own day.

Our Baby’s Got Moves

There is nothing quite like spending a Saturday morning marveling over a baby moving in your stomach. It has been especially fun since Nathan can see and feel our baby move as well now. The little guy has started a new thing where he does long brushes with some part of his body instead of little kicks. You can see it move across my stomach and it is a very peculiar feeling. Yesterday when I was watching a video on bullying in schools at work, something large….either his head or rear end….brushed across my stomach and ended up sticking out on the right side and making it appear lop-sided for quite some time.

In other news, I was able to freak Nate out quite a bit when I said….”Hey….Next month we’ll be able to say, ‘Next month we’re having a baby.'”

Loyalty

We have to keep our bikes inside temporarily. One of our cats (Olive) has since taken to sleeping with a bike instead of with us.

We’ve made a huge mistake

Kimberly and I had been wanting to do some work on the baby’s room for quite some time. However, due to crazy schedules, we had not been able to dedicate much time. Until today. The stars finally aligned, and we were both at home all day with nothing to do other than work on baby stuff.

Clean StorageSo we started the day with a simple goal: reorganize our storage space. Why? Well, we are in the process of converting our office into the nursery, and there is some furniture in there (namely bookshelves) which needs to be moved out. The storage was where those bookshelves need to go, so we had to get that cleaned up some.

Mission accomplished! We successfully cleaned out the storage. Of course to do that we had to make a huge mess of our deck and living room. And once the living room was messy, it had to get messier, since we had to re-organize the contents of some large rubber totes which were in the storage. I also had to clean out my old file cabinet (huge pile of paper).

Back in the office, we had to clean off the shelves for moving, but not before sifting through the books, deciding which ones we could live without. Then we had a wild idea to move the skinny bookshelf and sewing machine into the bedroom, meaning we had to split the books up between inside and outside (big process).

"Living" roomNext, we decided that we needed to get a different computer desk, since our new location for the computer (crammed in the corner of the dining room) would not accommodate our current desk. After consulting the internet, Ikea (of course) had the best options on tiny desks, so we drove out there. There was a huge backup on the freeways because of work on the I-205 bridge, so we ended up taking surface streets (longer drive in the hot weather). So finally we got back around 6:00pm, just in time to go to a friend’s graduation party. Needless to say, this excursion ate up all of the time we had previously dedicated to cleanup.

Olive leaps the paper pileAs you can see, our house is a total disaster. Actually, you can’t really see, because it is actually worse than when we took these photos. The disorderly state of affairs in our home made the cats just a bit crazier. And, looking upon the higher state of entropy we had unleashed, we both yelled “serenity now!” before popping some brownies in the oven. Looks like this one day project will be taking up the entire weekend. Oh well, it’s for the baby, so it is worth the extra effort.

First Post

If you know Nate, you can imagine his excited eyes as I told him I might want to start a blog. He has a special giddy-ness reserved for all things computer, and had this blog set up and ready before I had ever officially committed to it.

I thought I’d start out with this cute picture of our kitties. Olive (on the left) and Hermione had to make a trip to the vet yesterday. Both are in good health, but it was a particularly traumatic ordeal for Hermione who was (I think) playing dead at one point. She didn’t even need any vaccinations, but started meowing very loudly the second we walked in the door. It made me feel like such a mean mommy. When we got home they were all tuckered out from the stress and I was able to capture this rare photo of them close together.
